About this platform
Bring Your Own League is the first and only cross-league, cross-platform, fantasy football platform in the world (I’m fairly certain). Erase the walls between all of your redraft leagues and dump them all into the same competition if you want; you might end up playing against yourself though (I’ll try to make sure that doesn’t happen). Gather all the teams in your league together and go head to head against entire other 12-team leagues in our League of Leagues, because we have that too.
BYOL aims to get the most out of your fantasy football season. Why spend all offseason mocking, researching, listening to podcasts, watching film, and pouring over spreadsheets to only get ONE game a week out of your team? Put it in a second league and beat two teams at the same time. You could even when a second pay out
How It Works
Here's how this works out. Your teams that you have already drafted in other leagues (currently only from Sleeper, and hopefully Yahoo in the near future) are eligible if they meet a certain criteria. To make this a fair competition, I had to make the most universal set up I could think of.
- Redraft only
- Minimum of 12 teams in the league
- 1 QB
- 2 RB
- 2 WR
- 1 TE
- 1 Flex
- 1 Flex/Kicker (Superflex ineligible)
Allow me to explain. Redraft is the most common, but also the most disadvantaged of the formats versus keeper and dynasty. With less certainty in the draft and less currency for trades, it would be too uneven of a playing field to allow other formats in. As far as roster goes, it's mostly self-explanatory, but I'll explain the flex situation. Multiple flex spots is fairly common, but not every league does have more than one flex. Usually, though, if they have only one flex, they also have a kicker. In that event, the BYOL platform will find the kicker and treat it as the second flex. Obviously a superflex spot is too overpowered to allow as the second flex, so those spots are ineligible.
I need to reiterate, the Superflex SPOT itself is not eligible. This platform will analyze the roster settings of your league for eligibility to make sure you have 8 qualified slots, only one of which can be a QB. If you have 8 spots without the superflex, teams in that league would be eligible, but a second QB cannot score.
Players in dedicated position spots count for scoring before flex spots. So if you have 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, and 2 Flex, you have 9 spots but only the first 8 of those will score. The second flex spot will not register for scoring, so you will need to keep that in mind when setting your lineup on your league's main platform.
Home Away From Home & The Growing Pot
As more teams register in the league, its features, and its payouts will all change based on user count. Think of it like a Kickstarter. The more teams, the higher the pot. Eventually if more teams join, I can extend winnings to more teams. If you beat 50 teams out of 55, you should get something for it. Max winnings will be capped at $575 to avoid tax implications for an individual, so winnings would start spilling over.
In full transparency, once minimum payout amounts are satisfied ($200/$100/$50), the pot will split with the house. Research and development, hosting, equipment, wives, children. All these things cost money and we do not collect or sell your data, so there is no backdoor income stream. This is a private entity that has taken 100s of hours of evening, nights, weekends to bring to life. Mrs Commissioner will leave me if this is all paid out and all that comes in is fun and fulfillment.
The split will go 50% to the house, 30% to 1st, 15% to 2nd, and 5% to 3rd place as the pool grows above $350. If it never gets to $350 in collected dues, I take a net negative to guarantee a worthwhile league.
The Premium League
Higher pay in & higher payouts, but it needs to be said that technically fantasy winnings needs to be reported taxable when they exceed $600 (hence the Home Away From Home cap).
This payout does not have a guaranteed minimum, but the house will not take any cut until the pot exceeds $1200 (double the HAH League). The same rate will apply.
You are allowed to enter the same both leagues, I do not care. You cannot win both leagues though. If you do, you will have to give up first place in one league.
League of Leagues
Beyond the traditional Team vs Team competition, Bring Your Own League is pioneering the 12-team league vs 12-team league competition. Your ENTIRE LEAGUE will compete against other ENTIRE LEAGUES. Leagues will be registered as a crew for highest score against another league weekly. There is no guarantee of the payout for that, so we’ll need at least 4 leagues interested to register, and you're responsible for deciding who is entering the league, paying in and paying out.
This one is tricky, so please pre-register your league so I can hammer out the technical details. Pre-registration just means promising when the threshold is met and I feel confident in the feature that you will register. Also, please be honorable to your leaguemates and let them know you're registering the league. Leagues can't be registered multiple times, so you'll have to figure out who is paying who how. Maybe pool the registration fee?

How to Join
On the Home Page, there is a form you will out to by entering a username and email. That will create your account. For now we have no actual user “accounts” that require passwords, so your teams are associated with username and email. Once you have an account, you can import your Yahoo and Sleeper teams on the second step of the form. Once you select which of those teams you want to join, submit the form and make a payment to make them active in your leagues of choice!
